Staff Made — Charlotte's Liberty Garden Dress

We can't think of a more glorious pairing than the duo TFS HQ team member, Charlotte, chose for her latest dress make! Charlotte spotted this playful Tana Lawn in our recent Liberty delivery and took on the pin-tuck challenge of Frux Studio's incredible Garden Dress.

The result is this most wonderful dress that will no doubt be treasured for years to come!

"I LOVE the dress, can’t wait till it starts warming up to wear it."

Project Notes

Charlotte used Frux Studio's Women's Garden Dress + Blouse PDF Pattern — which also comes in a mini-me version! She made a size 16, with 5m of Liberty Tana Lawn Gloria Lomo / A, 1 button and 3 spools of Gütermann Sew-All black thread. Charlotte is an experienced sewist, but noted that this is definitely a slow and steady project and not something to rush through!

The construction of the dress features a front and back bodice filled with pin tucks, a three-quarter length sleeve with pin tucks surrounding the cuff, inseam pockets, a simple slit and button loop closure at the back and a wide-faced hem. There are also side ties just above the waistline which can be adjusted to suit a desired silhouette.

She shortened the dress by 10cm (Charlotte is approx 5'1) and let out a few of the pin tucks for the pattern piece to fit. She let out 4 from the front, 6 from the back and 4 from each sleeve. The pattern adjustments and many glorious pintucks took about 4-5 days to complete from go to whoa. She thought the instructions were pretty clear but she did have to read over it a couple of times as there were some new techniques she hadn't encountered in previous makes before.

"There is a bit of pre-sewing prep that goes into this pattern, as all the pin tucks need to be marked out prior to sewing I think I spent about 1 day tracing and cutting out the pattern and marking out all the pin tucks"

"I'm keen to make the blouse version of this pattern, but might wait a couple of months to tackle it!"
